Candler, Fern E. (Jordan) Candler
Fern E. (Jordan) Candler, 91, of Toddville (Midway), died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha of ovarian cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. Mark Lofquist. The family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include her two daughters, Sharon Harris Henderson (Norman) of Center Point and Linda Harris Morris (Kenneth) of Hiawatha; four granddaughters, Chris Hansen (David), Kathy Johnson (Tom), Jolene Egan (Chuck) and Lori Morris; five great-grandchildren, Jordan Hansen (fiance, Trevor Mouw), Micah Hansen (fiance, Gary Hickey Jr.), Andrew Johnson (fiancee, Tiffany Owen), and Ashley and Bradly Egan; one great-great-grandchild, Kali Egan; two brothers, Donald (Bernice) of Central City and William (Norma Jean) of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and a special family, Carla, Greir, Dawn, Corey, and Stacy Mills.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Earl LeRoy (Pat); and one sister, Arlene Blackford (Ray).
Fern was born Feb. 7, 1921, in rural Marion, the daughter of Kenneth J. and Pearl O. (Domer) Jordan. She graduated from Central City High School with the class of 1938, and was employed with Dearborn Brass for 30 years. Fern married Herman H. Candler on July 16, 1983, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua. Herman died May 18, 1993.
She was a member of the Toddville Free Methodist Church. Fern enjoyed her church, gardening, sewing, and cooking, but especially loved time spent with her family.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Jennifer, Abby, Cindy and Joyce with Hospice of Mercy for the compassionate care they provided to Fern in her home.
A memorial fund has been established in Fern's memory.
