Candace "Candi" Mae (Hess) Hanlon, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at her home. Services: noon Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home by Penny Ackerman. Friends may visit with the family
Saturday after 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include her daughters, Kimberly (Lance) Dixon and Kara (Richard) Davenport, both of Cedar Rapids, Keitta Torres (Brett Compos) of Clovis, N.M., and Carolyne Torres of Belen, N.M.; her mother, Marveleen Simon Hess; two brothers, Randolph (Vicky) Hess of Cedar Rapids and Russ (Jill) Hess of Orange City, Fla.; her sister, Cindy (Lewis) Zearley of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Alicia Kramme, Alexus Hynek, Emma and Ethan Davenport and Kimber and Bryce Compos; a great-granddaughter, Heidy Hynek; and a special friend, Robert "Sunshine" Worthington of Tucson, Ariz.
Candi was preceded in death by her father.
Candi was born Nov. 10, 1950, in Iowa City, the daughter of Herbert and Marveleen Simon Hess. She was a chef for many years, retiring in 2009.
Candi enjoyed spending time with her family and animals, especially her buddy, "Boozer." She was a gemologist and enjoyed growing and caring for flowers and plants, as well as creating beauty through calligraphy. Candi appreciated the American Indian culture and jewelry.
She had the soul of a gypsy, the heart of a hippie, the spirit of a fairy…
