Campion, Billy Dean
Billy Dean Campion, 78, formerly of Tipton, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at his home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors, will be in the West Branch Cemetery.
Billy was born Nov. 4, 1933, near Solon, Iowa, the son of Earl L. and Bessie L. (Stimmel) Campion. He was a graduate of West Branch High School class of 1952. He served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. On Dec. 20, 1952, Billy was united in marriage to Janet Lea Irey. She died in 1996. He later married Carolyn Woody on Nov. 9, 1996, in Tipton. In 1963, he had moved to Tipton, where he had spent many years farming in the area and serving for 20 years as a Cedar County supervisor. He returned to West Branch in 2009.
He was a member of the Tipton Moose Lodge and Tipton Lions Club as well as Chauncey Butler American Legion Post 514 in West Branch. He enjoyed playing cards, meeting new people and talking to old friends. He loved Cedar County.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Campion of West Branch; two children, Kirt (Cindy) Campion of Lisbon and Lori (Greg) Sebers of Clarence; two sisters, Kathleen Walenta of Iowa City and Cheryl (Allen) Campion Binggeli of Iowa City; two brothers, Leland (Kathryn) Campion of Wellman and Gerald (Linda) Campion of Iowa City; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet; and two brothers, James and Richard.
