Cairns, Charles
Charles Wilmer Cairns, 93, of Tryon, N.C., died Friday, Sept. 14, 2013. Services will be held Oct. 5, 2013, at Tryon Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Johnston Cairns; children, Bruce, James, John, Judith and Katherine; and a sister, Dorothy Cairns Meadows.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emily and Charles Cairns.
Charley Cairns was born in Chicago to Emily and Charles Cairns in1920. He grew up in Evanston, Ill., and graduated from Coe College in 1948 and there he married his wife, Louise Johnston. They had five children, Bruce of Estes Park, Colo., James of Clarksville, Ga., John of Cedar Rapids, Judith (Boburka) of Summit, N.J. and Katherine Cairns of Hendersonville, N.C.
He was hired by Dow Chemical at Coe College in 1948 and worked for them in Detroit, Chicago and New York, until his retirement. Charley and Louise retired to Tryon, N.C. in 1981 and just this year celebrated their 65th anniversary.
