Cabrnoch, Geraldine
Geraldine Cabrnoch, 91, a resident of Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Arizona and Palo, died Friday afternoon, June 14, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 J St. SW, where a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. by the Rev. Jeremy Higgins of Calvary Chapel. Private family burial: Czech National Cemetery.
Geraldine is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their families, including Michael (Jeanette) Lanka, Arizona, Steven (Joanne) Telecky, Omaha, Neb., Terri (Ray) Van Deusen, Cedar Rapids, and Bob (Anna) Lanka, Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Wes”; parents, Frank and Marie (Cicvarek) Lanka; brothers, George and Milo Lanka; and sisters-in-law, Caroline Evans and Jenny Lanka.
Geraldine, the first born child of Frank and Marie Lanka, was born Nov. 12, 1921, in Cedar Rapids. Her mother, Marie Cicvarek, immigrated from Czechoslovakia to Cedar Rapids in 1920 to become the bride of Frank Lanka. Geraldine was raised on 21st Avenue SW, where she lived for many years until moving to a farm west of Palo in 1955. She married James F. “Wes” Cabrnoch on Nov. 20, 1950, in Cedar Rapids. James died Nov. 3, 1996.
Geraldine was a bookkeeper for Paulson Electric Co. for over 40 years until her retirement. She and her husband spent winters in Arizona for several years, and following her husband's death, she and her brother Milo continued to winter vacation in Mesa, Ariz. Geraldine and Milo lived year-round in Mesa from 2003-2006 when they returned to Cedar Rapids.
Geraldine was a member of the Z.C.B.J. Women's Drill Team and also Lodge Cedar Rapids 262 W.F.L.A. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling and playing bingo.
