C. “Dean” Walker, 89, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the Hiawatha Care Center. A Memorial Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a one-hour visitation prior to the service.
Dean was born on March 26, 1935, in Barnes City, the son of Hiram and Fern (Lockard) Walker. He was a graduate of Oskaloosa High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army. On May 16, 1959, Dean was united in marriage to Joyce Marie McCartney in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Dean worked for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, until his retirement in 1993. He enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden, camping, and working on cars. He was known as a “jack of all trades”. Dean will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dean is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 65 years, Joyce Walker; four children, Douglas Walker, Cannon Springer, David (Christy) Walker, and Dana (Tracy) Wilkins; six grandchildren, J.D Walker, Abby Junior, Kaleena Wilkins, Marcus Wilkins, Maggie Wilkins, and Amanda Walker; three great-grandchildren; sister, Nora Reece; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis Walker; grandson, Austin Wilkins; sisters, Oma Leopard, Grace Mason, Verna Bolibaugh, and Esther Richards; brothers, Melvin Walker, Venzel Lockard; and two brothers in infancy.
