After graduation, she obtained a beauty license and worked for The Lovely Lady in Cedar Rapids. On May 3, 1941, Goldie married Kenneth Byers in Cedar Rapids. She quit her job as a beautician to raise three stepchildren. After her husband died in 1967, Goldie went to work for Armstrong's in the office until her retirement.
Goldie enjoyed, among other things, sewing dancing costumes for her daughter and stepdaughter, being a Camp Fire leader for both girls, including spending the night with a bunch of girls at Camp Hitaga and Palisades- Kepler State Park, entertaining at the county home through her church, making crafts of all kinds, including making all the flowers for her daughter's first wedding, and reading whenever possible. Goldie was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was in several plays they put on.
Goldie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant son, Richard Byers; stepson, Edwin Byers; granddaughter, Lori Carpenter; brother, Elwin O'Brien; and sisters, Mae Bowersox, Eva Stewart and Loella O'Brien.
