Byers, Anna M.
Anna M. Byers, 89, of Iowa City, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at the Iowa City Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial donations can be made in Anna's memory to Mercy Hospital Foundation, Iowa City Hospice or Iowa City Animal Shelter.

Anna Margaret Byers was born March 9, 1921, in Iowa City, the daughter of William V. and Margaret (Fiesler) Orr. She graduated from City High School in 1939, and attended the University of Iowa. Anna was united in marriage to John L. Byers on Jan. 14, 1949, at St. Patrick's Rectory in Iowa City. She was a member of the Mercy Hospital Guild, enjoying her time in the gift shop. Most dear to her heart was her family, she dearly loved them all.
Her family includes her daughters, Kathryn (John) Petershagen of Houston, Texas, and Margaret “Peg” Piere of Iowa City; grandchildren, Andy (Cristen) Petershagen, Ben Petershagen, Sarah (Mike) Christopher, Rebecca Petershagan, Keri Piere (Charles) Miller, and Matthew fiancee (Amy Austin) Piere; great-grandchildren, Clair, Gwyneth and Andrew Jr. Petershagen, Taylor and Madison Christopher, Jacob, Faith and Hope Evans and another great-granddaughter to be; brother, William V. (Doris) Orr of Garden Grove, Calif.; sister-in-law, Joan Williams of Iowa City; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bill (Donna) Byers of Iowa City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John in 1998; son-in-law, Roy Piere in 2009; and her precious Molly.
Anna's family would like to thank all at the Iowa City Care and Rehab Center for their care of our mother and grandmother, especially Felicia Martinez and Karen Ciha for their special loving compassion for our Anna and other residents there. Also a sincere thanks to all of Iowa City Hospice for all that they have done for Anna and our family.
