Buschmann, Fred P.
Fred P. Buschmann, 94, of Greeley, died Sunday, June 20, 2010, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, after an extended illness. In compliance with his wishes, his body was donated to the University of Iowa for the purpose of scientific research.
Fred was born in Chicago, Ill., on Feb. 1, 1916, the son of Conrad and Helen (Ebner) Buschmann. He served three and one half years in the Navy Seabees during World War II, serving in Newfoundland, the European Theatre, Omaha Beach, Normandy, the Pacific Theatre and On March 16, 1946, Fred was united in marriage to Alyce Pilgrim in Chicago. They went to Alaska for six years; moving to Iowa after son, Peter was born. Fred was a steam fitter with Local 125 in Cedar Rapids for 55 years, retiring in 1981.
Fred and Alyce liked to travel and did so extensively. Fred was an active member of the Manchester Masonic Lodge #165. He also was a member of El Kahir Shrine in Cedar Rapids, the Delaware County Shrine Club, the American Legion and the Greeley Commercial Club.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Alyce Buschmann of Greeley; one son, Peter (Jill) Buschmann of Manchester; two grandchildren, Gretchen (Dan) Chapman of Clarence and Michael (Heather) Buschmann of Seattle, Wash.; three great-grandchildren, Kiley and Blake Chapman and Clara Buschmann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, John.
Fred was a devoted family man, always willing to help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed.

Memorial service with Masonic rites: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Greeley Community Church in Greeley, with Peter Buschmann, officiating. he family will receive friends one hour before the service.
