Burns, Margaret Ann
Margaret Ann Burns, 63, of 1010 Fifth St. NW, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital after a short illness. Friends may visit with the family Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Lennox City Cemetery, Lennox, S.D.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Bob; a daughter, Michelle Burns of Cedar Rapids; a son, Aaron Burns of Cedar Rapids; five brothers, Bob, Jim, Edward, Bruce and Greg Poppenga of Lennox, S.D.; two sisters, Verna (Vince) Crouch and Vicki Wasson, both of Lennox, S.D.; six aunts, Deloris Nothdurft, Fran (Ed) Postma, Valoy Poppenga and Bonnie Poppenga, all of Sioux Falls, S.D., Lucille Fryslie of Brandt, S.D., and Ruth Davey of Hurley, S.D.; and an uncle, Wilfred Poppenga of Lennox, S.D.
Her parents and a sister, Mary Osborn, preceded her in death.
Margaret was born March 24, 1949, in Lennox S.D., the daughter of Benjamin and Lois Curtis Poppenga. She graduated from Lennox High School in 1967 and was united in marriage to Robert Wayne Burns on Sept. 30, 1972, in Mechanicsville, Iowa. She had been employed as an assembly operator at Rockwell Collins, where she had worked for 34 years. She was a former volunteer for the HACAP Meals on Wheels program.
Margaret enjoyed spending time in her garden, especially caring for her flowers. She was an avid reader of mystery novels and always loved decorating her home for the holidays and making blankets for her friends and family.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
