Burns, Alviena Marie
Alviena Marie Burns, 69, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Norway, died Monday, June 20, 2011, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center after living a good and full life. Memorial Service: 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church by Pastor Lloyd Brockmeyer. Friends may visit from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the church from 2 to 6 p.m. before the service. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Alviena is survived by her husband, Ron; son, Raymond of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Tammy (Jeff) Horak of Walford; three grandchildren, Kasi Hayes (Jami Becker), Alison Horak and Aaron (Ashleigh) Bonifazi; two great-grandsons, Lennox Brailen Becker and David Jeffrey Bonifazi; two sisters, Judy Frost of Waterloo, and Gloria Calos of Oceanside, Calif.; sister-in-law, Judy Martin of Washington, N.C.; brother, Dwight Martin of Tennessee; and special friends, John Lee (Rose) Eads and their family of Cedar Rapids.
Alviena was preceded in death by her parents; twin brother, Alvin Martin; son, Ronald William Burns; and granddaughter, Daphne Nicole Slagenweit.
Alviena was born Feb. 27, 1942, in Mason City, the daughter of Alvin and Margaret (Johnson) Martin. She married Ronald Burns on July 29, 1962, in Mason City. Alviena worked at Norway Community Schools in the kitchen for many years.
Alviena liked to sew, quilt and do embroidery work. She loved spending time with children either at her work or teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible School or leading various scouting troops.
Alviena loved spending time with her family and friends and was overjoyed to meet her new great-grandson, Lennox who was born June 13, 2011.
