Burnett, Judith K.
Judith K. Burnett, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Hospice House of Mercy following a long illness. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at The Alliance Church. Friends may visit with the family at the church Thursday from 12 to 1 p.m. before the service. A meal will follow the service. Pastor Al Biere will be officiating and Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Judith is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Garret) Karns of Cedar Rapids; sister, Jean Davidsaver of Bellevue; brother, Rick (Audrey) Biere of Wauwatosa, Wis., and stepgrandchildren, Alli Karns of Des Moines and Eli, Grace and Sam Karns of Cedar Rapids and dear family friend, Ruth Bensmiller of Marion.
Her husband, Jack and her parents precede her in death.
Judith was born August 1, 1942, in Anamosa the daughter of Raymond and Irene Freese Biere. She married Jack L. Burnett on April 9, 1961, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Olin.
After Judy and Jack were married they lived in Norway and then moved to Cedar Rapids. In 1994 they moved to Madison, Mo., to enjoy country living on an acreage. Their love for motorcycle trips was evident as they took many road trips on their BMW motorcycles, attending rallies on the weekends and during the summer.
In 2005 after her husband's death, Judy moved back to Cedar Rapids to be closer to her daughter, Kelly, and her family. Judy became very active at Alliance Church and looked forward to volunteering in the food pantry and participating in Bible study. She hated to miss her monthly outings with her “girlfriends.”
Judy was an avid reader and always had a book close by. She had an infectious laugh and enjoyed a good story. Judy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Judy's family would like to express their thanks and gratitude for the loving care given to her by Darcie and the entire Hospice of Mercy staff.
Memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
