Burky, Carol Jane
Carol Jane Burky, 65, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be at10:30 a.m. Friday, March 23, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Marion, with a viewing starting at 9:30 a.m. Father Tony Kruse will be presiding. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Lunch will be provided at the church following the service. Burial will be at a later date.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis Burky, her sons; Christopher Burky (Sara) of Chicago, Aaron Burky (Cassandra) of McKinney, Texas, and Jason Burky of San Diego, Calif.; brother, Ronald Berrie of Davenport; sister, Sharon Berrie of Cedar Rapids; and grandchildren; Emma, Cole, Everett and Greyson.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Phyllis.
Carol was born Nov. 4, 1946, in Mount Pleasant to Earl R. and Viola Mae (Shrader) Berrie. Carol married Dennis Burky on Aug. 17, 1968 at St. Alphonsus in Mount Pleasant. Carol went to Kirkwood Community College where she earned her Associates of Arts degree and later went to worked as an executive secretary at Rockwell Collins, CR Inc, Dow Chemical and Fiserv. She retired seven years ago.
Carol loved spending time with her grandchildren and traveling to the warmer climates during some of the winter months. Carol's 29 year involvement as a friend of Bill W. was a most important aspect of her life. She will be remembered for her classy dressing and her bright and vibrant smile.
