Burkey, Dwayne
Dwayne Burkey, 68, died Saturday, May 14, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Public visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. Private committal services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton, conducted by the Rev. Clarke E. Frederick.
Dwayne Burkey was born Oct. 14, 1942, to Melvin and Lola (Allen) Burkey. On July 17, 1987, he married Judy Wright Clark in Vinton. Dwayne was employed as a mechanic by the DOT for 35 years.
In his leisure he enjoyed hunting, fishing, dirt track racing and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Judy of Vinton; his son, Donald Burkey of Vinton; his daughter, Debbra Burkey of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Lola Burkey of Vinton; his stepsons, Scott Clark of Vinton and Ryan Clark of Waterloo; his grandsons, Aaron Burkey and Jeffrey Burgess; his granddaughters, Amanda Burkey and Dannielle Burgess; and his sister, Beverly Hopkins of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
