Burke, James H. 'Jim'
James H. “Jim” Burke, 88, of Iowa City, formerly of New York City, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City, where there will be visitation one hour before the service. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hazleton, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Judith Young Saunders Scholarship fund through the University of Iowa Foundation.

Jim was born May 1, 1925, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of Harry E. and Hilda K. (Hillman) Burke. Following graduation from high school in Independence, he attended the University of Iowa but before graduating he entered the Army Air Corps during World War II. Following the war, he returned to the University of Iowa where he received his degree. He also held a master's degree in library science from Columbia University. He had spent most of his adult life living in New York City. Mr. Burke was a retired art dealer and former editor for Harcourt Brace Publishing Company. He returned to Iowa City in 2009.
He is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Kathryn Burke Young and JoAnn Burke Capell; and his niece, Judith Young Saunders.
