Burdette Jon Dlouhy, 78, died Jan. 1, 2015, at Salerno Bay Manor Nursing Home in Stuart, Fla., from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Burdette was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Aug. 10, 1936, to James and Mary Ann Fee.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Dlouhy Sr.; a son, Frank Dlouhy Jr. of Stuart, Fla.; three brothers, James Freeman, Denver, Colo., Kenneth Fee, Cedar Rapids and Everett "Jack" Fee, Canmore, Alberta, Canada; a sister, Judith Moss, Iowa City; five grandchildren, Paula Lyons, David Dlouhy, Zachary Burns, Victoria (Salas) Salcedo and Amy Salas; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and the many friends she knew during her lifetime.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Mary Helen (Dlouhy) Salas (1988).
Burdette graduated from high school in Cedar Rapids and was united in marriage to Frank E. Dlouhy on March 21, 1955. She enjoyed donating her time to many charities, traveling, reading, gardening and arts and crafts. Her great sense of humor and storytelling was legendary. She loved to cook and often organized events for family and friends.
In 1972, she moved to Lompoc, Calif., where she first worked as a medical transcriptionist. She soon started her own business as a big rig owner-operator. After more than a decade of driving coast to coast, she settled down and went to work for the Santa Barbara school board and the Lompoc Unified School District until her retirement in 2005.
In 2010, she remarried her first love, Frank Sr. In 2012, they moved to Stuart, Fla., where she spent her remaining years with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will always be remembered as a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend.
