Burdette "Bing" Alden Binning, 93, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private family graveside: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bing was born Nov. 26, 1923, the son of Clarence and Katherine (Brady) Binning, in Greeley, Iowa. He served as an AAF aircraft electrician sergeant on Leyte Island, Philippines, during World War II. Later, he attended Central Radio and Television School in Kansas City, Mo. On May 22, 1949, he was married to Betty Marie Eddy. Bing was employed at Rockwell Collins as an engineer technician for over 30 years.
He was a 50-plus year member of Kenwood Presbyterian Church (Echo Hill Presbyterian Church) and Cedar Rapids Camera Club. Bing also was a lifelong member of the VFW. He and Betty became residents at Cottage Grove Place in December 1999. There they spent many hours volunteering. Bing was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; daughter, Cynthia; two granddaughters, Tynell and Tammy; two grandsons, Jason and Brandon; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela; parents; and brother, Howard (Rosie) Binning.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cottage Grove Foundation or Echo Hill Presbyterian Church.
