Buhr, F. Frank 'Frankie'
F. Frank “Frankie” Buhr, 82, died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone, with the Rev. Dr. James Eggert officiating. Interment will be at Keystone Cemetery. Friends may register at the funeral home from noon until service time on Thursday.
Frankie was born May 17, 1928, near Vinton, to Oscar and Anna (Jaeger) Buhr. On Aug. 4, 1959, he married Diana Hollingshead at Dana, Iowa. A well known and talented musician, Frankie played for decades with the band that bore his name and with many other well known bands and musicians. He enjoyed entertaining at nursing homes and at senior citizen gatherings. On Feb. 3, 1996, he received the KCRG-TV9 “Show You Care Award.” He also served as a bus driver for the Benton Community School District.
He is survived by his wife, Diana of Keystone; his children, Rodney (Kathy) Buhr of Marshalltown, Ryan (Amy) Buhr of Newhall, Randy Buhr of Blairstown, Cindy (Brian-Opie) Kimm of Blairstown and LuAnn Hansen (Dave Gasper) of Blairstown; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elfrieda Dunker of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sons, Danny and David Buhr; and infant grandson, Angelice Buhr.
A memorial fund has been established.
