Weaver Buckley, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A gathering time for family and friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at Keystone Place located at 6126 Rockwell Dr. NE, Cedar Rapids, to remember and share Betty's life. Her wishes of cremation were honored through Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City.
Mrs. Buckley was born Aug. 5, 1920, in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (O'Connor) Weaver. She graduated from Malden, Mass., High School. On June 21, 1942, she married Daniel Joseph Buckley Jr. in Malden. The couple had lived in Swansea, Mass., Hudson, Fla., and in 2002, moved to North Liberty to be closer to family. Daniel died Christmas Day in 2007. Betty moved to Cedar Rapids after this.
Betty cared for her family for many years, and after they were out of the home she worked for a time in the local school district in Swansea, Mass. After moving to Cedar Rapids, she transferred her church membership to St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Her family includes her sons, Daniel J. Buckley III of Colfax, Calif., Michael F. Buckley and his wife, Dayle, of Fall Rivers, Mass., and Stephen W. Buckley and his wife, Debra, of South Dartmouth, Mass.; daughter-in-law, Julie Buckley of Solon; and 10 grandchildren, Amie, Tina, Jennifer, Bryan, Kara, Christopher, Megan, Stephanie, Bridget and Scott.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; son, Patrick W. Buckley; three brothers, Frank, Wally and Carl Weaver; and her sister, Helen Toomy.
