Buchanan, Frankie Laverne Henderson
Frankie Laverne Henderson Buchanan of Fayetteville, Ark., formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully in a hospital on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013. She was 75. Her daughter, Lauri Cook, was at her bedside.
Frankie was born Aug. 27, 1938, to Lector and Mae Henderson in Frankston, Texas. She graduated from Frankston High School as valedictorian of her class. After college at North Texas State College (now University of North Texas) Frankie married Larry Buchanan and moved with him to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she was a full-time homemaker and mother, volunteer and civic worker. She served briefly as financial director for the Cedar Rapids Symphony.
Following divorce, Frankie accumulated further school credits and worked for several years in college administration at Kirkwood Community College before moving to Fayetteville, Ark. There she opened, owned and operated her own clothing store, Second Act-South until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Maxine, Dallas, Texas.
In addition to her daughter, Lauri (Scott), and grandson, William, of Omaha, Neb., Frankie is survived by her sisters, Nelda Melton and Elaine (J.A.) Griffin, and brothers, Harold (Betty) Henderson and Ronnie (Pat) Henderson, all of Frankston; plus numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Memorial services and interment are planned in Frankston.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to your local women's shelter.
