Bryant, Rev. H. Burr

Rev. H. Burr Bryant, 61, of Alburnett, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2012, at First United Methodist Church, Marion, by Rev. Scott Lothe, Rev. Ben Wilson, and Rev. Howard Lord. The family will greet friends from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, where a Masonic Service will begin at 1 p.m. Private family inurnment: Prairie Chapel Cemetery, rural Marion, at a later date.

Survivors include his wife, Connie; daughter, Tamera Bryant (Todd Goben) of San Antonio, Texas; son, Harold Burr Bryant IV (Michelle) of St. Charles, Iowa; grandson, Alexander Bryant; mother-in-law, Virginia McTee of Fairfield; sister, Charlene “Chuck” Worby (Dean) of New York; brother-in-law, Jerry McTee (Nancy) of Alabama; sister-in-law, Carol Roach (James) of Texas; and nieces and nephews, Chelsea, Christopher, Sara, Meagan, Logan, and Payton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Burr was born Oct. 15, 1950, the son of Harold Burr Bryant Jr. and Betty (Knight). He married Connie McTee on Dec. 18, 1971, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a graduate of Coe College and went on to earn his Master's Degree in Theology from University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. Burr served as the beloved pastor of Clover Ridge United Methodist Church of Fairfax/Walford, Montezuma United Methodist Church, and Alburnett and Prairie Chapel United Methodist Churches.

Burr also was a dedicated Brother Mason and a member of Fidelitas Lodge #364 of Fairfax, Lafayette Lodge #52 of Montezuma (Past Master), and Trojan Lodge #548 of Marion. Burr was a member of both the Scottish and York Rites, and El Kahir Shrine, where he served as chaplain and president of the Shrine band. He was the former spiritual director of Cedar Rapids Emmaus Community, a past member of both the Lions Club and the Optimist Club, and worked for many years as a chaplain for St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Burr enjoyed photography and had an eclectic sense of humor. He was a voracious reader and loved time he spent with his family.
