Bruce Kenneth Miller, 69, of Marion, passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection
in Marion.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Sandra; sons, Kyle of Lincoln, Neb., and Brent and his wife, Jodie, of North Branch, Mich.; grandsons, Luke, Logan and Lawson Rutledge; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Steve Eickhoff; and nephew, Craig Eickhoff.
Bruce was born Aug. 2, 1948, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Maxine (Hansen) Miller. Bruce grew up on a dairy farm and graduated from Albert City-Truesdale Community Schools in 1966. He was united in marriage to Sandra M. Forsberg on April 6, 1967. They were blessed with two sons, Brent and Kyle.
Bruce was a loving husband and father and treated everyone who touched his life with love and respect. He led by example and built character in those who were part of his life – his sons, family, co-workers and friends.
He loved coaching Little League, watching his sons and grandsons play sports, and playing cards with friends. Bruce was an avid golfer who always was striving for the longer drive.
Bruce served his country in the U.S. Army as a military police officer from 1969 through 1971. He received an associate degree in criminal justice from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1979 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in organizational management from Concordia College, Seward, Neb., in 1998. Bruce served in the Nebraska State Patrol from 1973 to 1978 in the divisions of traffic control and accident investigation, governor's security and drug enforcement. Bruce joined United Fire and Casualty in 1985 and retired in 2013. As assistant vice president of property claims he oversaw large property damages, including the national catastrophes of hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Sandy and the 2008 flood of the Cedar Rapids home office.
Bruce loved retirement, wintering in Arizona and meeting new friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bruce's memory.
