Bruce, D. Wayne
CEDAR RAPIDS - D. Wayne Bruce, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial, with military rites: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. today.
Wayne was born Jan. 29, 1921, in Nebraska. He married and leaves behind the love of his life, Kathleen Doyle (May 22, 1943; 67 years). He went to the St. Louis Cardinal organization in 1938 and roomed with Stan Musial. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, a 33-year retiree from Iowa Manufacturing Co., and a life member of the VFW, American Legion and Elks Club. He was also a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
Wayne was a loving father to Kathy (Dave) Driscoll and Jim (Vicki) Bruce. He has six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also sisters, Maxine (Doug) Welbourne and Pat (Del) Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 513 18th Ave, Hiawatha, IA 52233.
