Bruce Alan Carrothers, 56, passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at his home in Cambridge. A visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, at the Ankeny Funeral Home (1510 W. First St., Ankeny, IA 50023). Funeral
services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Manchester Cemetery in Manchester.
Bruce was born Feb. 26, 1958, in Manchester, Iowa, to Vinton and Hazel (Mangold) Carrothers. He grew up outside of Rowley and graduated from East Buchanan High School class of 1976. Upon graduation, Bruce enrolled at Iowa State University, where he received his bachelor's degree in animal science.
Bruce spent his days working on the farm as a Duroc pig breeder as well as a porcine ultrasound technician. He enjoyed walleye fishing, antique collecting and the Iowa State Fair. He was a mentor to the kids in the 4-H program and loved to spend time with his boys.
Bruce will be remembered as a quiet and thoughtful soul.
Bruce will be missed deeply by his sons, Justin Carrothers of West Des Moines and Adam Carrothers of Laurel; and brother, M. Kent Carrothers.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in- law, Connie Kay.
