Brown, Monica M.
Monica M. Brown, 95, of Dubuque, passed away at 5:10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at St. Raphael Cathedral, Dubuque, with the Rev. Daniel Knepper officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd., Dubuque, where a wake service begins at 4 p.m.
Monica was born Feb. 5, 1916, in La Motte, Iowa, the daughter of Nicholas and Theresa (Koppes) Schilling. She married Leo Brown on April 16, 1939, at Holy Rosary Church in La Motte. Leo was killed Feb. 25, 1945, during World War II.
Monica was a member of St. Raphael's Cathedral for over 60 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Steil of Dubuque; two sons, Robert “Bob” (Carol) Brown of Marion and William “Bill” Brown of Bettendorf; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rita Lux of Dubuque and Celeste Ames of Loveland, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Teri Burdt on May 26, 2009; a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Popken; two brothers, Donald and Raymond; a sister, Helen Herrig; a daughter-in-law, Ann Brown; and a son-in-law, Don Steil.
