Brown, MIchael D.
Michael D. Brown, 62, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sept. 27, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by his family. A memorial service to celebrate Mike's life will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Echo Hill Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jim Langley officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A private family burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Muscatine.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Alice; his children, Nick Brown and wife Amanda of Richland and Lizzy Kirschbaum and husband Chris of Oxford; his grandchildren, Riley, Lily, Ellie, Nemo and Charlotte; his siblings, Barbara Lambert and husband Mike of Pittsburg, Pa., David Brown and wife Dianna of Muscatine and Denny Brown and wife Nancy of Columbus Junction; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
Michael Duane Brown was born Feb. 14, 1950, in Iowa City, to Robert D. and Betty M. (Smith) Brown. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Alice L. Fishburn on May 27, 1972, in Muscatine. He worked in commercial printing and over the years worked for Pepco, Stamats, and Cedar Graphics. He retired from Unisource in 2011.
Mike enjoyed woodworking, photography, music of all types, and sports, especially football and wrestling. His greatest enjoyment was his family. Mike truly delighted in his grandchildren, always attending their events and mentoring them.
He will be greatly missed by all.
