Brown, Bethel Ann
Bethel Ann Brown, 95, of Colesburg, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at United Methodist Church, Colesburg, with the Rev. Allen Kraft officiating. Interment: Brown Cemetery, rural Colesburg. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
She was born Sept. 23, 1915, in Masonville, Iowa, the daughter of Otis R. and Marian (Lee) Barclay. Bethel was raised and educated in the Colesburg area, and graduated in 1932 from Colesburg High School. She taught in the Elkport-Garber rural schools for several years. Bethel was united in marriage to Frank Chance Brown on June 12, 1936. Together they made their home in Colesburg. Bethel owned and operated “The Fair Lady” clothing store in Manchester for 20 years. She has resided the past three years at Lincolnwood Assisted Living in Edgewood.
Bethel was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and Lone Pine Country Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley (Dallam) Thompson of Sun City West, Ariz.; a son, Michael (Karen) Brown of Milford, Ohio; four grandchildren, David (Donna) Thompson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Michael (Teresa) Thompson of Galesburg, Ill., Stacy (Joseph) Bateman of Villa Hills, Ky., and Amy (Brad) Baltz of Little Rock, Ark.; six great-grandchildren, David Chance and Taylor Thompson, Coby and Jaclyn Thompson, Elizabeth and Emma Bateman; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Allan, Nick and Matt Baltz.
Bethel was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Chance Brown in 2006; her parents; two brothers, Col. John R. Barclay and Dr. Alan Barclay; and a daughter-in-law, Ann Brown.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Colesburg United Methodist Church.
