Brooks, Anna L.
Anna L. Brooks, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at home. Inurnment: Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include four sons, Melvin Brooks Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Eugene Brooks of Hiawatha, James Nolan Brooks of Rock Island, Ill., and Paul Anthony Brooks of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; and a host of great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and foster children through the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Brooks Sr.; a son, Billy “Joe” Brooks; and six siblings, Audrey Pate, Clair Etta Howard, Hazel Gooding, Paralee Cole, Emmitt Eugene Doolin Jr., and James Nolan Doolin Sr.
Anna was born Jan. 1, 1922, the daughter of Emmitt and Lucille (Mallory) Doolin Sr. in Palmyra, Mo. On Sept. 5, 1937, she married Melvin R. Brooks in Rock Island, Ill. He died in August 2001.
She enjoyed crocheting and quilting.
