Brokens, Gayle L.
Gayle L. Brokens, 75, of Anamosa, died Monday June 21, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday June 24, at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. Rev. Ron Thatcher will officiate at the service. Friends may call starting at noon at the Goettsch Funeral Home. Internment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at
Surviving is her mother, Glennye Large of Eldora, Iowa; husband, Leonard; two daughters, Ginger (Matt) Warner of Greenwood, Mo., and Chris (Marlyn) Cross of Iowa Falls; a sister, Gloria (Don) Schaa of Eldora; four grandchildren: Tim Thomas, Jacob Miller and Jack and Lily Warner; a stepgrandson, Tommy Warner; three great-grandchildren: Amber Padgett, Jacey and Dane Thomas; cousin, Velma Adkins; and many more nieces, nephews and cousins; She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Ruby, and a niece, Lynn Ballard
Gayle L. Brokens was born Dec. 21, 1934, on her maternal grandparent's family farm in Mahaska County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harold and Glennye Minner Ruby. Gayle was a 1952 graduate of Eldora High School. She worked as an LPN for many years. On Aug. 5, 1976, Gayle and Leonard Brokens were united in marriage in Dubuque. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anamosa. Gayle enjoyed working in her garden and spending time with her family, she will be missed dearly by those closest to her.
