Broghammer, Charles 'Chuck' Philip
Charles “Chuck” Philip Broghammer was born to Dr. Francis and Margaret (Leahy) Broghammer on April 29, 1926, in Superior, Wis. He passed away May 16, 2013, at his home in West Union.
Following graduation from high school Chuck enlisted in the Navy and was a proud World War II veteran. Chuck was united in marriage to Marion Deeny on Oct. 12, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waucoma. He spent a short time farming before beginning a career in plumbing and heating.
Chuck was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, serving as caretaker of the cemetery. He was the first Grand Knight of the St. Thomas Council of the Knights of Columbus. From 1953-2004, he volunteered his time with the West Union Fire Department, serving as chief from 1983 until his retirement.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Marion of West Union; six children, Bernardine (Greg) of Robins, Janice (Gary) Rosauer of Gilbertville, Joyce (Mike) Friederich of Elgin, Bill (Lori) Broghammer of Charles City, Louise (Sam) Basile of Rockford, Ill., and Theresa Broghammer of Marion; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; twin sister, Carolyn Leehy; sister, Mary Margaret (Phil) Schmidt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Anna Louise.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union. A visitation will be one hour before service time at Burnham-Wood Funeral Home. A public visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with a rosary service at 3 p.m. A Scripture service will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the family invites friends and family to share stories following the service.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be dispersed between the West Union Fire Department and Mount Calvary Cemetery Chapel for renovations.
Burnham-Wood & S.K. Rogers Funeral Home of West Union is in charge of arrangements.
