Brock, William 'Bill' O.
William “Bill” O. Brock, 85, died Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Iowa City VA Health Care System. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at First Baptist Church in South English. Pastor Joe Winkler will officiate. Visitation will be at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial, with military rites will be in South English Cemetery.
William O. Brock was born Aug. 15, 1925, in South English, Iowa, the son of Fred David and Edna L. (Sigafoose) Brock. He graduated from South English High School in 1942. Bill served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II. He was united in marriage to Doris Muriel Schauff at her home near North English on June 2, 1945. Bill and Doris were married over 55 years and dedicated their lives together to serve the South English community. Bill served as South English mayor for 16 years, drove the school bus for over 40 years, and operated Bill's Electric for years. He continued up until his last few weeks as water supervisor for South English and Keswick.
He was a member of the American Legion and was a former volunteer fireman.
He is survived by two sons, Bill (Debby) Brock of Ames and Mark (Carolyn) Brock of West Branch; five grandchildren, Andrew (Pam) Brock, Ashley Christiansen, Marcus Brock, Julie Brock and Adam Brock; three great-grandchildren, Renzo Christiansen, Ella Brock and Grant Brock; and a sister, Mary Ann Zook of Charlottesville, Va.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Doris in March 2006.
