Brian P. Bahndorf, 48, of Kalona, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026, at his home following a sudden illness. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026. More details will be made available closer to the date. Memorial donations can be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Brian Paul Bahndorf was born July 17, 1977, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Dean H. and Marilyn K. (Graper) Bahndorf. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1995. Brian worked closely with Duane and Jason Brenneman as a bricklayer, then from 2003 to 2012 he was the facilities manager for his sister Brooke at #1 Sun and Tanning Salon. While there he created lifelong friendships. In 2012 he became part owner of 218 Tap in Hills. He enjoyed cooking and creating menu items for the bar and he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, photography and music, especially going to concerts. Brian’s daughter Ryan was the light of his life, and he was a loving dad.
Survivors include his parents Dean and Marilyn of Kalona, his daughter Ryan, his sister Brooke (Shawn) Kauffman of Coralville, a number of cousins and close friends.
Preceding Brian in death were his paternal grandparents, Herbert and Jean Bahndorf, and maternal grandparents, Eldon and Helen Graper.
