Brian Hillmer, 57, passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, in St. Cloud, Minn., after an extended illness.
He graduated from Kennedy High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army for eight years as a journalist. His most recent career was as a cook, which he greatly enjoyed. His greatest loves were his family, books and sports.
Brian was born Sept. 25, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, son of Ernest Hillmer and Delores (Linderwell) Hillmer.
Survivors include his sister, Sherri (Jimmie) Evans; nephews, Daniel Kelchen and Austin Kelchen; and great-niece, Kaylie Kelchen.
A gathering to celebrate his life will be Saturday, Nov. 28, at American Legion Post 735, 207 Robins Rd., Hiawatha, from 1 to 4 p.m.
