Surviving are his father, Doug and stepmother Pam of Scotch Grove; three siblings, Alan (Brenda) Jacobs, Scotch Grove, Angela Ramspott, North Liberty, and Mark (Paige) Jacobs, Scotch Grove; five nieces; three nephews; his paternal grandfather, Marvin Jacobs and fiancee Marjory Stubbe, Monticello; two stepsisters, Meredith Johnson, New Haven, Conn., and Whitney Johnson, Tucson, Ariz.; and aunts and uncles, Mike (Jackie ) Jacobs, Chandler, Ariz., Brenda (Ron) Stecker, Marion, Janine Hostutler, Princeton, Texas, and Beverly (Doug) Jones, Fallbrook, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean; and grandparents, Joan Jacobs and Raymond and Anna Schoon.
Brett Arnold Jacobs was born Feb. 10, 1981, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Douglas and Jean Schoon Jacobs. Brett attended the Monticello Community Schools and graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School in 2002. Brett continued his education at Reach For Your Potential group home in Iowa City from 2003 until 2006. Brett returned to Monticello and lived at the Advancement Services Home on Walnut Street in Monticello.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he was baptized March 1, 1981.
Good food was a particular joy in Brett's life. Apple pie was his favorite dessert, with beef and noodles as a preferred main dish.
He had a special gift with the beloved dogs that the family owned over the years. Brett was a country music fan and would let everyone know that he did not want to listen to rock and roll. He could often be found relaxing on a porch swing in the warm summer months.
Brett enjoyed living at the Advancement Services Home on Walnut Street, a place he called "home."
The Jacobs family would like to thank his "home" family (Mike, Mary Jo and the late Carol Ann), the staff members at Advancement Services and all the care-givers and helpers who have been a part of Brett's life over the years. The family especially wishes to thank his lifelong friends, Sarah Pasker and Aggie O'Connell, for all their years of support to Brett.
