Brenton Lysaght Barnett, 74, of Fairfax, died Friday, May 26, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, at Stonebridge Church, 1829 Stoney Point Rd. SW, Cedar Rapids, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Private family inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Brenton was born July 25, 1942, the son of Glenn and Grace (Lysaght) Barnett, in Cherokee, Iowa. On Oct. 1, 1966, he was married to Linda K. Fugate in Cedar Rapids. Brenton worked as a machinist for Goss Graphics in Cedar Rapids for 37 years.
He had many hobbies, including racing, restoring cars and collecting guns. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was a hunting instructor for the Izaak Walton League. Brenton was an avid hunter and marksman. He also worked as a hospice volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital.
Brenton had a strong faith and was a whole-hearted follower of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He participated in the men's Bible study at Stonebridge Church and also was a children's assistant for the Men's Bible Study Fellowship International.
Survivors include his wife, Linda K. Barnett; two daughters, Brenda Lynn (Dean) Sturgeon and Brook Lea (Quinn) Goodson; 10 grandchildren, Jade, Kristi, Breanna, Bryce, Quinn Jr., Mariah, Sierra, Dalton, Quintin and Leilah; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Katherine (Raymond) Davidson and Glenna Lynn Green.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lynn Barkley.
Memorials may be directed to Stonebridge Church or St. Luke's Hospice of Cedar Rapids in memory of Brenton.
