Breno, Susanna 'Sue'
IOWA CITY - Susanna “Sue” Breno, 55, of Iowa City, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at High Point City Church (4187 Landon Ave., Iowa City). Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery.
Susanna Gorvin Breno was born Dec. 18, 1954, in Iowa City, the daughter of James and Anna Mary (Spratt) Gorvin. She married Joseph Breno II on June 8, 1973. The couple lived in Colorado for over 20 years where they raised their two children, Angel and Joseph III. She loved caring for her children and husband, and in later years being grandma was the greatest! She was a member of High Point City Church, where she enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School every year. She was also a member of the ladies auxiliary. Sue was also an avid sewer and enjoyed cooking meals for her family.
Her family includes her husband, Joseph Breno II; daughter, Angel Pokorny (Mike) of Iowa City; son, Joseph Breno III (Melissa) of Johnstown, Colo.; six grandchildren, Aspen, Skyler, Breckyn, J.C., Allyana and Keeagan; siblings, Pam and her husband, Phillip Escher, of Wellman, Pat Grosvernor and her husband, John, of Coralville, Mic Gorvin of Iowa City, Paul Gorvin and his wife, Tami, of Coralville, Connie Mullinnix and her husband, Roger, of Iowa City, and Don Gorvin of Coralville; and sisters-in-law, Cindy Gorvin of Solon and Maureen Irish-Gorvin of Iowa City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Paula Gorvin and Barb Irish-Gorvin; brothers, Bruce Gorvin and James Gorvin II; and brother-in-law, John Grosvenor.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her memory.
