Brei, Robert Louis

Robert Louis Brei, 81, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Crestview Care and Rehab Center in West Branch. No services are planned; a private family burial will take place at a later date. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements.

Robert was born Nov. 2, 1931, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Louis Adam and Irene (Monk) Brei. He was a graduate of Muscatine High School in the class of 1950. In June 1951, he was married to Marilyn Edith Hines; they later divorced.

Robert was in the United States Air Force, serving from October 1951 to October 1955, and was stationed in Wichita, Kan., as an aircraft mechanic. After his service in the Air Force, he worked as an automotive repair technician, maintenance man for Standard Oil Co. and an automotive parts person.

He is survived by two children, Randy Brei of Huntsville, Ala., and Lou Ann Brei (Denny) Lathrop of Iowa City; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carolyn Peters of Coralville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; ex-wife, Marilyn; and his daughter, Kathryn Jean Brei in 2001.
