Braynard, Noel Wesley
Noel Wesley Braynard, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at home. Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with military rites. Burial: Anderson Cemetery, Swisher, Iowa.
Survivors include his children, Lou Ann Dahlhauser (Allen) of Cedar Rapids, and Gerald Dean “Jerry” Braynard (Gerry) of Oroville, Calif.; a brother, Harold Braynard (Norvela) of Missouri; grandchildren, Todd Alan (Shelli) Braynard of Key West, Fla., Dawn Marie (Jon) Hoglan of Independence, and Rebecca Lynn (Adam) Silberstein of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Hoglan and Garret Hoglan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred; three brothers; two sisters; and a great-grandson, Jacob Jones.
Noel was born March 8, 1919, the son of Bruce and Daisey (Clapp) Braynard in Marshall, Ill. He married Mildred Louise Karnik in 1942, in Texas. Noel served with the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He owned Braynard's Catering for over 50 years. He also worked for the Montrose Hotel in Cedar Rapids, the Tall Corn Hotel in Marshalltown, and was a broiler chef at the Flame Room in Cedar Rapids.
