Brawner, Michael 'Mike' Joseph
Michael “Mike” Joseph Brawner, 65, of Cedar Rapids, passed away with his family at his side, Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at the Mayo Clinic. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. and again after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Military honors by American Legion Post 727.
Mike is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joann; son, Chris (Mattie) Brawner, daughter, Cindy Brawner (boyfriend Trevor Bruning), and two sisters, Shelia (Chuck) Barta and Jan Bodkin, all of Cedar Rapids; brother, Jerry Brawner, and half brother, Tim (Francis) Brawner, both of California; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents preceded Mike in death.
Michael was born April 4, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Bernardine Erlacher Brawner. Mike served in the Marines during the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart. He married Joann Schuster on Jan. 29, 1972, in Delhi. Mike worked as a truck driver.
Mike loved spending time with his family, riding his motorcycle and attending motorcycle events, playing Euchre and celebrating St. Patrick's Day.
