Brackett, Paula K.
Paula K. Brackett, 57, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends and celebrate Paula's life from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at her home, 4523 Regal Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements. Her cremains will be scattered in Montana at a later date.
Survivors include her “better half,” Jeff Rose of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Brandi Woodall of Cedar Rapids; and a stepbrother, Jim Cook of Alliance, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Charles Brackett.
Paula was born March 30, 1953, in Livingston, Mont., the daughter of Paul E. and Mary K. Cook. She graduated from Park High School in Livingston, Mont., in 1972, then joined the Women's Corps of the U.S. Army, where she served two years. While serving, she met and married Charles Brackett. The couple lived overseas and she followed where he served. Charles retired from the military and the couple settled in Maine. Charles died in the early 1990s.
Paula moved to Fort Knox, Ky., where she met her fiance, Jeff Rose. Jeff was her heart and soul. In 1994, Paula moved to Cedar Rapids, where she worked at Only Deals and then at Dollar Tree for the past 13 years.
Paula was a glimmer of light and hope. She always had a smile around friends and believed in bringing confidence, happiness and love. As the mother of seven babies, she treated her dogs like children. She was a beloved friend to everyone she knew. Paula touched many lives and will be missed.
