Boyle, Daniel W. 'Dan'
Daniel W. “Dan” Boyle, 80, of Iowa City, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab in Coralville, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Father John Spiegel will officiate. Tuesday, a parish vigil service will begin at 4 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Visitation will then be held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Daniel Boyle Memorial Fund.
Dan was born June 6, 1933. in Iowa City, the son of Clement and Marie (Phillips) Boyle. Growing up in Iowa City, he graduated from Iowa City High School in 1951 and completed his undergraduate work at the University of Iowa. Dan then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Upon returning to Iowa, he received his JD from the University of Iowa in 1960. Dan married Donna Dee Aug. 25, 1962, at St. Mary's Church in Iowa City.
Dan was a partner at the Phelan Law Office for 50 years. He was a member of the Iowa State Bar Association and the Iowa City Elks Club.
Survivors include his children, Sara Keeling (Kevin) of Bettendorf, Sean Boyle of Iowa City and Jennifer Boyle of Greenwich, Conn.; granddaughters, Elizabeth, Megan, Paige and Grace Ecklund; two sisters, Marilyn (Richard) Sargent of New Lenox, Ill. and Catherine Martin (John) of Naperville, Ill.; and brother, Richard (Nancy) Boyle of Wheaton, Ill.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna; and a brother, The Rev. John Boyle.
