Boyer, Donald E.
Donald E. Boyer, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at Living Center East from complications of COPD. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at First Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. Friends may visit after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Donald is survived by six children, Mary Jo (Peter) Savale of Pebble Beach, Calif., Michael (Candy) Boyer of Cedar Rapids, Alan (Cathy) Boyer of Hiawatha, Bradley (Susan) Boyer of Louisville, Ky., Tracy (Alonna) Schreiner of Cedar Rapids and Susan (Pat) Ward of Urbandale; 13 grandchildren, Josh and Ben Schreiner, Robert Savale, Chris, Melissa and Steven Boyer, Megan, Molly and Connor Ward, Jacob and Joseph Boyer, Michael and Eric Boyer; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Rita (Bob) Benesch of Center Point; brother-in-law, Bob Lala of Fairfax; sister-in-law, Barbara Boyer of Sacramento, Calif.; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Phyllis, Ann and Maggie; and many other friends at Linwood Apartments.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; grandson, Danny Ward; brothers, Lynn Jr. and Marvin Boyer; and sisters, Marie Boyer and Leone Lala.
Donald was born May 6, 1931, in a farmhouse in Central City, the son of Lynn and Eleanor (Wahl) Boyer. He served with the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. He married Dorothy Webb on March 1, 1952, in Lubbock, Texas. They later divorced. Donald married Betty Loomis Schreiner on July 19, 1967, in Sacramento, Calif. She died in 2006.
Donald worked as a machinist and manufacturing supervisor for many years. Donald was a member of First Lutheran Church.
Donald's family would like to thank the many caregivers throughout the years, including the staff at St. Luke's and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church.
