Boyd, Mary 'Lucille'
Mary “Lucille” Boyd, 94, died peacefully Monday, June 24, 2013, surrounded by her family at Mercy Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Regina Foundation, Mercy Hospital Foundation for Mercy Hospice or to Iowa City Hospice.
Lucille was born July 21, 1918, in Holbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Frank J. and M. Laurine Donahue Leeney. She was reared in Holbrook and Oxford and had resided in Iowa City since 1932. Lucille graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1936. She was united in marriage to Frank A. Boyd on Feb. 4, 1942, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City.
Lucille worked at the Jefferson Hotel, Federal Savings & Loan and later at American College Testing as a test administrator. She had been a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church since 1931, the Catholic Daughters of America for 50 years and the Altar and Rosary Society. Most important to Lucille was her family.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the caregivers at Legacy Gardens and Mercy Hospice for their support during Lucille's illness.
Lucille is survived by her loving children, her daughter, Diane Boyd of Iowa City and her son, Robert Boyd and his wife, Judy, all of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Kelly Boyd of Mill Valley, Calif., Casey Boyd of Iowa City and Molly Boyd of Breckenridge, Colo.; two stepgrandchildren, Adam Henn and his wife, Angela of Greensboro, N.C. and Stephanie Henn of Charlotte, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Taylor Nicole Boyd, McKenna and Ryan Boyd and Natalie and Olivia Henn; one sister, Kay Schneberger of Monticello, Minn.; her brother-in-law, Phil Rocca of Iowa City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded by her parents; her husband, Frank; two brothers, Frank Leeney and Donald “Gene” Leeney; four sisters, Dolores Hanrahan, Shirley Rocca, Rose Mary Rogers and Marlene Fuhrmeister; and several nieces and nephews.
