Bowers, Jerry
Jerry Bowers of Center Point, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 16, 2013. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Murdoch Funeral Home in Center Point. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, Iowa.
Jerry was born in Urbana, Iowa, to Claire and Bernice (Sanborn) Bowers on April 6, 1950. He graduated from Center Point High School in 1968 and worked as a machinist at Cherry Burrell/International Paper and Borlaug Systems Inc.
Jerry enjoyed deer hunting in southern Iowa, pheasant hunting in South Dakota, elk hunting in Idaho and a moose hunt in Canada. He also enjoyed shooting Sporting Clays, Trap and Skeet. The annual fishing trips to Canada with his wife were high points of the year.
Jerry was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Diane (Schnieders), Center Point; son, Shane and wife Stephanie, Monticello; grandchildren, Alyssa and Caden; parents, Claire and Bernice, Center Point; brothers, Gary of Walker and Mike of Center Point, IA; sister, Barb Davidson, Marion.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America or Cat Fishing for a Cause in his name.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Tulsa, Okla., their support and love helped us to persevere. We would also like to thank the staff at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha.
