Bowers, Betty Ellene
Betty Ellene Bowers, 90, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at Northbrook Manor Care Center. Funeral Services will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends and family may call Monday evening from 5 to 7 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Dunkard Cemetery.
She is survived by four nephews, Mike (Betty) Bowers of Central City, and Alan (Dee) Gorman, Tom Gorman, Gregg Gorman, two nieces, Diane Tyne and Karla (Henry) Keyes, and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Bowers, all of Cedar Rapids; and many loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Charles Bowers; and a sister, Thea Gorman.
Betty Ellene Bowers was born March 10, 1922, in Toddville, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Bowers and Martha Jane Matheny Bowers Van Fossen. Betty graduated from Toddville High School in 1940. From there she went to St. Luke's nurses training school and gradated in 1945 as a cadet nurse. Her 35-year career was spent caring for others at the veterans hospital in Des Moines as a registered nurse.
Betty loved her family, traveling, and Iowa football games.
