Bowen, Frances M.
Frances M. Bowen, 96, of The Meth-Wick Community, died there Friday, June 1, 2012. Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. The Rev. Randy Kasch and the Rev. Patricia Decker will officiate. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Larry (Carol) of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Joan (Steven) Smith of Clive and Judy (Mike) Chadek of Higden, Ark.; one brother, Charles Schwarz of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren, Amy Dvorak, Susan Bishop, Taylor and Andrew Smith, Jon and Kristen Chadek, Jane Groves, Steve and Kim Bowen and Michelle Cardoso; 12 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Cherie Bowen of Turlock, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jim; four brothers and two sisters.
Frances was born Dec. 21, 1915, in Burlington, the daughter of William and Lillian Brown Schwarz. She married Wilmer T. Bowen on July 27, 1935, in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1982. Frances worked for Iowa Illinois Gas and Light Co. (Mid-America Energy) for over 20 years, retiring in 1979.
She was a faithful member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Degree of Honor. Frances was an avid golfer and enjoyed needle work, bowling, crocheting and especially the time she spent with her beloved family and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or The Meth-Wick Foundation in Frances' name.
