Borchardt, Darryl D.
Darryl D. Borchardt, 75, departed this life Saturday, March 12, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military rites provided by American Legion Post 298, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Nita; his children, Deanna (Ron) Holtzman of Hiawatha, Bill (Carrie) Borchardt of Manchester, Robin (Kelly) Despain of Summit, Utah, Valerie (Dave) Williams of State Center, Iowa, Kent (Paula) Fuessley of Wheatland, Wyo., Doug (Diane) Fuessley of Wheatland, Wyo., and Cindy (Randy Possehl) Spray of Central City; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Delbert (Betty) Borchardt of Riceville.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Arliene Walk; a brother, Delwin Borchardt; a daughter, Teresa DeSotel; and a grandchild, Jarad Spray.
Darryl was born May 17, 1935, the son of Lloyd and Esther (Schmidt) Borchardt, in Worth County, Iowa. He married JuaNita Annis on Sept. 17, 1981, at the Hiawatha Zion Lutheran Church. He worked at Rockwell Collins for 37 years and Farmers State Bank for 10 years. Darryl served in the United States Army as a communication specialist and was a member of the Marion Legion.
Darryl's hobbies included gardening, fishing, photography, coin collecting, woodworking, traveling, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and family gatherings. He was an avid blood donor.
A memorial fund has been established in Darryl's memory.
