Charles "Chuck" R. Boots, 79, of Marion, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014. A funeral service, with Masonic rites by Marion Masonic Lodge 6 A.F. & A.M., will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar
Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marleen; children, Christine (Michael) Crilley of Cedar Rapids, Robert (Donna) Boots of Pella and Douglas (Eliza) Boots of Waverly; grandchildren, Joseph, Alex, Spencer, Claire, Ellis, Leah and Elle; and siblings, William (Arlene) Boots of Cedar Rapids, Herman (Joann) Boots of Cedar Rapids and Katherine Wink of Anamosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Nellie, Fred and Donald.
Charles Robert Boots was born Aug. 15, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of William and Iva (Gundlach) Boots. After finishing school, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. On July 8, 1956, he married Marleen Hansen in Marion. Chuck was a letter carrier for the Marion Post Office from 1962 until his retirement in 1989.
He was a member of the Marion First United Methodist Church, Marion Masonic Lodge 6, A.F. & A.M., Masonic Royal Arch, Marion Lions Club and Wandering Wheels Camping Club. He was a former bus driver for the Linn-Mar School District for many years. Chuck enjoyed reading, fishing, camping, playing softball and his
grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established in Chuck's name.
