Bonnivere "Bonnie" Humphrey Stepanek, 93, of Living Center West, died there late Friday evening, Aug. 22, 2014. Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church, 720 Edgewood Rd. NW, with Pastor Patrick
Fish officiating. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, and after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Bonnie is survived by nieces and a nephew, Bobbie Gruber, Barb (Carl) Zahradnik, Mike (Sue) Humphrey and Lynn Humphrey; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents, Louis and Cora (Wolfe) Humphrey; three brothers, Donovan, Russell and Carroll Humphrey; three sisters, Lucille Uridil, Eleanor Morrison and Audrey Hughson; and two nephews, Bud and Gary Humphrey.
Bonnivere was born Aug. 5, 1921, in Cedar Rapids and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and the Cedar Rapids Business College. She married Harold G. Stepanek on Sept. 11, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. He died April 30, 2000. Bonnie and Harold had lived in Iowa City and Woodstock, N.Y., and then they returned to Cedar Rapids for several years. They then lived in La Mesa, Calif., for four years; Apple Valley, Minn., Miramesa, Calif., for four years and returned to Cedar Rapids on Nov. 1, 1977.
Bonnie had been employed as an office supervisor at Prudential Life In-surance Co. in Cedar Rapids for 13 years. She then worked in the credit department at Armstrong's Department Store from 1978 until her retirement in 1991.
Harold and Bonnie enjoyed a wonderful trip to Paris in 1986 and they also had the opportunity to participate in five Elder Hostel trips throughout the western United States.
Bonnie was a member of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church and formerly attended Sharon United Methodist Church. She was a member of the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library and the Museum Guild. Bonnie loved all kinds of music and learned a great deal about art from her late husband who was an artist.
The family would like to express their thanks to Hospice of Mercy, Hallmar at Mercy Medical Center and Evergreen Estates III for all of their wonderful care of Bonnie.
Memorial contributions may be given to Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church and the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.
