Bonnie Mae Nelson, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with the Rev. John Raab officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A
luncheon will follow at the Kirkwood Room. Graveside committal will be at
3 p.m. Saturday at Waveland Cemetery
near Prairie City, Iowa. Memorials received will be donated to projects near to Bonnie's heart.
Bonnie Mae Nelson was born Sept. 3, 1931, in Prairie City, Iowa, to Otto A. and Florence Collet Nelson. She graduated from Prairie City High School with the Class of 1949. After graduation, she worked in Des Moines for 14 years, when she then moved to Iowa City and worked for Plumbers Supply Co. She retired in 1998. Bonnie enjoyed time with friends, traveling the world, needlework and serving the people in her community.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her father in 1932; her parents, Frank and Florence Wagner, stepbrother and wife, Wendell and Helen Wagner; niece, Deanna Wagner Purscell; and nephew, Bruce Wagner.
She is survived by a sister, Phyllis Brown; and nieces and nephew, Diane Brown, Steven (Junie) Brown, Janene (Thom) Kraft, David (Deb) Brown, Linda (Steve) Gill, Truman (Caren) Wagner, Brenda (Kyle) Harshbarger, Arlys Wagner and Karen Wagner; and many great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Bonnie would like to thank Dr. Miller and the wonderful staff at Mercy Oncology for their excellent care.
